The effective Leadership is reflected in various institutional practices such as decentralization and participative management.
To ensure the effective deployment of the strategic plans of the institution, the Principal, makes an assessment of the tasks to be carried out and lays out a detailed plan of action to be implemented in which he delegates the authority to the Heads of the Departments to carry out academic and administrative tasks. For administering the day to day affairs of the office, campus maintenance and hostels, the Principal delegates the authority to the administrative officer and deputy warden in the case of the hostel. To encourage participative management, the Principal delegates authority to the Heads of the Department for conducting BOS meetings and also ensures adequate representation of faculty members in the Meetings of the standing committee on academic affairs and academic council. As an autonomous college, the role of the controller of examinations assumes great importance, in the case of examination and related work, the Principal delegates the authority to the controller of examinations. In curriculum development also the Principal encourages participative management through the involvement of the Curriculum Development Cell and its members. The Principal also reckons the role and involvement of the Heads of the Department to be crucial in the recruitment process which is considered as one of the vital aspects of participative management. The Principal also provides opportunities to the faculty members and students to be a part of members of various committees, associations and clubs as an addition to participative management.
As the continuation of the plan of decentralization and participative management, the Directors/Head of the Departments assign the task of preparation of the workload and time table to the faculty member. They also supervise the class management of teachers and discipline part of the students. The class tutors are assigned the task of monitoring the class students and their progress. The Head of the departments also prepare the activity plan and the budget for their respective departments and delegate the authority to the department staff for carrying out the same. In the next level the class tutors engage the students to involve themselves at various levels to extend their contributions towards conducting the departmental activities.
As regards the practice of decentralization and participative management in the Controller of Examinations section, the controller is empowered to administer the examination section. He in turn delegates the authority to deputy controller of examination and assistant controller of examinations for carrying out the examination work. The Deputy Controller of the Examination prepares a schedule of the entire activities to be carried out and the task of conducting the end semester examinations.
For day to day functioning of the Office and the management of non-teaching staff, the Principal delegates the authority to the administrative officer. The Administrative officer performs his duty and for general maintenance he delegates the work to the campus manager. For taking care of the administration of the hostel and monitoring the students, the task is assigned to the deputy warden with proper delegation of authority by the Principal.
