About the Department

The Department Microbiology was established in the year 2004. Research within the department is focused on Environmental Microbiology, Biodegradation, Medical Microbiology, Bioactive Phytochemicals and Biofuels. The department has excellent infrastructure with the basic and advanced equipment for research. The department has completed a major project, sponsored by the DST for 13.5 lakhs. The department also is supported by the Tamilnadu State council for Science and technology under popularization of science activities scheme. Our department is one among the four departments in the college, recognized and supported under DBT Star college scheme. Tie up with diagnostic laboratories for placements. A Diploma programme in Clinical Laboratory Techniques Linkages with Research laboratories for career enhancements Certifications in fostoc.

Programme Description

Our B.Sc., Microbiology course involves the study of microorganisms with specialized core paper including Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Genetics, Food Microbiology etc., As a microbiologists, it is necessary to do the research required for the future challenges of disease worldwide. Our practical's has a main focus to do so. The final year as a part of curriculum will spend on the mini project to overcome a specific scientific concern.

  • Encouraging students to publish research papers in journals and conferences.
  • Publication ethics, Biosafety, IPR and Bioethics are taught to the students.
