"The Department Biotechnology was established in the year 2003. The PG and Research Department of Biotechnology, which offers UG; PG; Diploma and research programs, was established in the year 2003 which provides fanatical grow up for the students and researchers who are always funneled by the expertise team of faculty members. To its credit, the department has been recommended under Star College Scheme, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi from the academic year 2018-2019 for strengthening Undergraduate Programme. The department was funded Rs. 4.8 Lakhs to organize Mid career Scientist Workshop by DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi; Rs. 1,35,000/- to organize Science Academies Lecture Workshop by Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru and Rs. 45,000/- to organize State level Workshops by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai. The department offers Industry oriented Value added programmes, periodical skill oriented workshops and training programmes. A Diploma programme in Microbial Biotechnology MoU with Research laboratories and Institutions.

Diploma in Microbial Biotechnology a major aubjects are Microbial Physiology and Metabolism, Medical Genetics, Entrepreneurship Biotechnology , Biotechnological Approaches for Environmental Monitoring, followed by practical classes.
