Scholarships for Empowerment : A Distinctive Area of the College

• Hindusthan College of Arts and Science has grown to greater heights in the field of higher education over the last two decades.The success can be attributed to the commitment not only to produce skilled graduates but also to help graduates who are in need of financial assistance with the motto of the institution as Education, Ethics and Excellence. This trend is evident from the functioning of the college in every aspect.The students of our college are extended with the financial support by our management and NGOs. This support is extended with the main idea of providing world class education to one and all equally and thereby empowering the students to face the future confidently.

• With a view to extending a helping hand to thechildren from the weaker section of the society,the management made educationaffordable to all. It also helps thosewho hail from economically poor backgrounds to become graduates and post graduates.To quote an example, the children from orphanages like AGARAM,YAVARUM KELEER, CORA, MATRAM are given 100% free education.The management encourage and motivate the students to secure high grades in their achievement and make them eligible to avail the management scholarships.The college also helps to enhance the learning ability of the students so that they can concentrate on their studies without worrying about financial matters. The children from AGARAM Foundation and CORA Trust graduated here on management scholarship are currently well placed and they have become self-reliant citizens.

• The management also make sure that financial assistance is offered to class toppers, alumni, to meritorious students and even provides free education to many students and thereby fulfilling social responsibility.

• Many organizations have come forward to offer scholarships to deserving students.  Students who have secured prizes in Sports at the University, State-level and national level receive financial assistance, fee-concessions and scholarships from the management.

• It has been a successful practice to provide scholarships, fee-concessions, and financial assistance through the initiatives of the Management, to various students from economically poor backgrounds, Children of single parents,referred by social organisations and trusts.

• In the year 2016-17, the Management provided Scholarships under various headings like Merit Scholarships, Alumni Scholarships,Free Education category, Economically poor backgrounds, Children of Hindusthan Employees, and Sports Scholarships and Concession for class toppers. The total number of beneficiaries were 1770 students and the total amount spent on them was Rs 2,98,31,475/-

• The total number of beneficiaries  in the year 2017-18 was 1449 and the Management spent  Rs 1,18,82,330 under various headings like MeritScholarships, Alumni Scholarships, Free Education category, Economically poor backgrounds, Children of Hindusthan Employees, and Sports Scholarships and Concession for class toppers.In the year 2018-19 there was an increase in the financial aid provided by the Management, 2018-19, the number of students who benefitted was1596 and the total amount spent  on Financial aidwas Rs1,44,58,980. Assistance was given under various categories in the year 2019-20 likeMeritScholarships, Alumni Scholarships, Free Education category, Economically poor backgrounds, Children of Hindusthan Employees, and Sports Scholarships and Concession for class toppers. The number of students who benefitted from the assistance was 1494 ,and the amount  was Rs 1,38,29,420/- . Due to Corona Pandemic in 2019-20 and onwards brought a lot of financial difficulties to the students. The Management magnanimously granted financial aid to 4587 students to the tune of  Rs 3,50,15, 370/-

• In addition to providing above scholarships, the management also provides scholarship to hostel students by means of complete free boarding/complete free lodging/complete free boarding and lodging. In the year, 2016-2017, 53 students were benefited by granting scholarships amount of Rs 16,26,750, in the year, 2017-2018, 50 students were benefited by granting scholarships amount of Rs 15,04,000, in the year, 2018-2019, 47 students were benefited by granting scholarships amount of Rs 12,01,500, in the year, 2019-2020, 54 students were benefited by granting scholarships amount of Rs 12,29,500, in the year, 2020-2021, 11 students were benefited by granting scholarships amount of Rs 2,34,590. On the whole, 215 hostel students were benefitted by granting scholarship amount ofRs 57,16,840 for the past 5 years.

• Children of employees of Hindusthan Institutions are also beneficiaries of financial aid and fee concessions .Achievers in Sports get sports scholarships that is given as an incentive to the winners at the University level, State level and the National Level. During 2020-2021 fee-concessions were also given to several students who were unable to pay the fees due to the Corona Pandemic.Many NGOs like SHANTHI SOCIAL SERVICE, MAHINDRA, LIONS CLUB and ATTITUDE SCHOLAR have provided financial support to the students. Around 50 students were benefitted every year by gettingfinancial help of the above NGOs.

• We consider the concept of providing financial support as our distinctive area of priority among various aspects of the performance of the college in view of the fact that it has been quite a success in facilitatinglakhs of students to study, to secure a degree and to become independent in their life. It is being done not only out of philanthropic gesture but also out of participationtowards the society and commitment towards educational system. The management also recognises meritorious students and helps them complete their education and also provides opportunities for placement. On the whole, the institution focuses as much as possible on providing a helping hand to those who are interested in studying but could not do so due to financial constraints and therefore, it is evident that the scholarships provided by the management empower the students for growing better and helps them to have sustenance in their achievements in the professional and personal life.
