About the Department

The Department Biotechnology was established in the year 2003, which offers UG, PG, Diploma and research programs. This course which provides fanatical grow up for the students and researchers who are always funneled by the expertise team of faculty members. To its credit, the department has been recommended under Star College Scheme, DBT, New Delhi from the academic year 2018-2019 for strengthening Undergraduate Programme. The department was funded Rs. 4.8 Lakhs to organize Mid career Scientist Workshop by DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi. Rs.1,35,000/- to organize Science Academies Lecture Workshop by Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru and Rs. 45,000/- to organize State level Workshops by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai. The department offers Industry oriented Value added programmes, periodical skill oriented workshops and training programmes.

To produce Biotechnology Professionals with the knowledge to excel in Scientific and Industrial Research career and to develop Entrepreneurship Skills.

Mission


To develop the Curriculum with Program Specific Outcomes that produce sound knowledge in different traits of Biotechnology which include Nanotechnology, Agriculture Biotechnology, Forensic Science and Biosafety.
To impart the Scientific Knowledge to the student community by conducting Interaction Sessions with Eminent Scientists and Industrialists through Department Association

Programme Description

M.Sc., course combines all the semesters a major papers are Cell Biology and Genetics, Bio techniques, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Recombinant DNA Technology and Forensic Biotechnology, Plant and Agricultural Biotechnology, Computational Biology, Animal Biotechnology, Fermentation Technology, Environmental Biotechnology and Elective papers in specialized units.

  • Understand and apply the concepts of Biotechnology, instrumentation and related aspects of science and technology.
  • Produce research-oriented Biotechnology graduates who will be employable in academic/Industry sponsored research projects for pursuing higher studies and successful careers in industry.
