About the Department

The Department of Social Work was established in the year 2004 with the vision to nurture Social Work graduates to be competent individuals to cause change in them as well as in the society and have global perspective through practice based curriculum. The Department has signed MoU with various Government and Non-Governmental Organizations, Industries and Hospitals. Value added courses, on-line courses and placement training are added advantage in our curriculum.

Programme Description

The course is adequately designed to prepare the students to be self-confident individuals and aims to enhance their professional skills for sustainable development. Since its inception the department is committed towards quality teaching, focuses in the areas of research and enables students to work towards social causes. The specializations offered are Human Resource Management, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Community Development at the Postgraduate Degree level. The main component of the course apart from the theory classes is field exposure as Field Work training which provides them hands-on opportunity to work in Non-Governmental Organizations, Governmental Organizations.

  • 1. Prepare social work students to be self-reflective and competent professionals in the global environment.
  • 3. Empower vulnerable and at-risk populations by conducting various awareness programmes.

I, Devika Shankaran would like to express my sincere gratitude to Hindusthan College of Arts and Science (HICAS) for providing enough scope and possibilities to build a career path.The department of Social work has helped me with the theoretical knowledge and provided me with great exposure towards Industries, NGO’s, Hospitals and Social activities through their development programs like Rural Camp, Field work, Industrial Visit, Students research Projects and so on. This imparted me with Knowledge, skills and prepared me to see the world of opportunities and become a part of the workforce in an organization.
